For Children & Youth November 12th

Nursery Care opens at 8:30. Jade and Marie are ready to play with your little one!

Sunday School starts at 9 am. PreK-1 children are invited to sing with Julie in the William Johnson room from 9:00-9:15. After the music, Jill and Josie will guide them in a story about one of the miracles Jesus performed, ”Jesus Heals Two Daughters.”

The 2-5 grade classroom will explore the Letters From the Apostles. First, the children will experience the Fruits of the Spirit through guided imagery. After the story, the children will have the opportunity to write a letter to someone in our congregation. Diane, Joanna, and Jadyn will guide the children in their learning.

Older Youth have both Newsletter & Breakfast Club as options for gathering this Sunday at 9am!

TRU Function will practice from 10:00-12:00.

Music Connection with Julie Mazer after the children’s message on Sunday.

November 17: 5:30-7:30 “Friendsgiving” Party at St. Dunstan’s Episcopal Church– Our youth (6th-high school) are invited to get to know other youth at St. Dunstan’s Episcopal Church (6205 University Ave, Madison, WI 53705) at a potluck “Friendsgiving” party. We are looking to do some combined youth programming with St. Dunstan’s and other progressive Christian churches with Queer & LGBTQIA+ youth; this is one step toward this exciting collaboration!

November 19: Bible Distribution: During worship, ORUCC will strengthen the baptismal commitment to the children in our church community with a Bible Distribution Ceremony. Though it is too late to order additional Bibles, your child is welcome to attend service to watch and support the ritual.

Service Trip Deposit by Nov 19th: We are asking that a non-refundable down payment for the trip ($250 per youth) be paid by next Sunday, November 19th. This can be done on our website or by check. (Please make sure to mark that it is for Service Trip if paying by check)

November 23: Thanksgiving Day Berbee Derby: Calling all walkers, run/walkers, and runners! Join us at the 40th Annual Berbee Derby. It’s too late to enter for a team shirt, but you can still run, walk, and pose for selfies with the ORUCC bunch! www.berbeederby.com/registration/

November 26: Advent Wreath Making: Join us on November 26 at 9 a.m. in Friendship Hall for our third annual intergenerational Advent Wreath Making Event. All supplies will be provided for families to make an Advent Wreath to take home.

November 29th Fundraiser at Culver’s in Verona! These have been very profitable for us in the past. We get 10% of sales for the night, so tell your friends and family! November Compassion Offering

Thanksgiving Year Round Fund

ORUCC has a long tradition of supporting our social services partners in their work with neighbors in need. Post pandemic and the end of CARES funds have left some of our neediest ORUCC neighbors struggling to keep up with inflationary food prices and skyrocketing rent increases.

Established in 2020, the ORUCC Thanksgiving Year Round Fund helps support our neighbors with Woodman’s gift cards distributed by staff from Joining Forces for Families (JFF), Commonwealth Development (CWD), and Early Childhood Development (ECI). There is now a need to replenish this fund in order to continue this vital support.

ORUCC member Loretta Swanson and Community Social Worker, Eric Alvin are our lead social services team who distribute the gift cards to other neighborhood case workers. Loretta reports how a $20-$50 gift card can help a family through the holiday season and beyond:

  • To cover the cost of extra food needed while children are home during holiday breaks
  • To help pay for gas to allow a parent to travel for a job interview

These gift cards help in so many ways. Please consider a donation to the Thanksgiving Year Round Fund to provide direct support to families and individuals in our neighborhood. Your donation is truly appreciated, this holiday season and beyond.

Thank you in advance for your contribution.

You can make a donation by check, on the memo line, please write “compassion” and mail to ORUCC, 1501 Gilbert Road, Madison, WI 53711,

or donate online from our website. The link is https://orucc.org/contribute/support/
