Technology Fundraiser
The church is moving ahead with technology improvements, and we are welcoming contributions to help pay for them. Hybrid meetings in the Alfred Swan Room are already happening; these permit people present in the room to share the event with those connected from home via Zoom. Next up we will be adding technology to make it possible to hold larger hybrid meetings and enhanced educational events in Friendship Hall. To learn more please read this post from the ORUCC Website Link .
You can make a donation by check, on the memo line, please write “AV” and mail to ORUCC, 1501 Gilbert Road, Madison, WI 53711, or donate online at LINK tech fund.

We are grateful for the ministry of Jeanne Moberly who is a member of Adult Faith Formation, as she puts together a set of fresh readings every week for our devotional practice at Orchard Ridge UCC. You will see these posted daily if you are part of the “Members & Friends” Facebook group. If you know someone who needs encouragement and would like the devotional mailed to them, please contact Julie Wombacher in the church office.

August Compassion Offering
Community Immigration Law Center (CILC)
The Community Immigration Legal Clinic (CILC) is a Madison-based nonprofit organization that provides legal representation to immigrants facing deportation, free legal clinics, and training and education on immigration issues for the community at large. CILC is housed at Christ Presbyterian Church, 944 East Gorham Street, in Madison. Wisconsin.
CILC provides pro bono services for anyone who presents themselves at their door, asylum seekers, refugees, and people recently released from detention centers. In the past year, referrals to CILC have included people from the border, people from Afghanistan and, most recently, people from Ukraine. In the past two months, referrals for services have doubled.
Funds from the compassion offering will fund an increase of staff for establishment of a pro-se clinic. The pro-se clinic will provide increased access to those seeking information about their rights, assistance in filling out required forms and asylum applications in their native language, and support navigating the immigration court system.
Thank you in advance for your contribution.

Sunday Morning Nursery
Seeking Nursery Care for Fall
We are looking for two dedicated individuals to be a nursery care provider to begin Sept 11. Hours are from 8:30-11:30 a.m. on Sunday mornings. If you know anyone in your network who might be a good fit for us, please pass this information along to them. We consider the nursery care to be an important piece of our vibrant ministry to families, that we are ready to bring BACK! There is a possibility for extended hours for special activities either on Sundays or other days of the week. This person will work with our other hired staff person and care for children ages 0-5 years. We will pay $20.00/hour. We are a Safe Sanctuary congregation and all of our applicants are screened. Please send resumes to Julie Mazer, email [email protected]

This Weekend
Camping at Governor Dodge State Park
Our camping trip to Governor Dodge State Park is this weekend: August 12-14. Whether you come for the entire weekend or just on Saturday I (Jill Westberg) hope to see you. Remember there are 2 lakes for swimming and paddling, and lots of hiking paths. On Saturday evening we’ll get together for a potluck supper. Bring your own meat and a dish to share. Jim and I will be in Cox Hollow Campground at site #65. If you don’t see us there, give me a call: 630-254-0825. Until then email any questions to me at [email protected].

August Garden Work Day
Saturday, August 20, 10 am
Everyone with a hedge trimmer or a chainsaw is invited to come to the church and trim the woody plants around the fence on Saturday, August 20 at 10:00. The fence will be replaced soon and the bushes are overgrown. The brush will be hauled away 2 weeks later. If you want to stick around and trim the shrubs along the education wing or weed the flower bed outside the back door, feel free to do so.
We had more than 3 inches of rain last weekend so watering is not a priority task this week. Thank you to Susan Dovell, Chris Thomas and Ruth Ann Berkholtz who watered flower beds and to Jill Westberg who weeded in the meditation garden area. A big thanks to George Nestler who hauled away the huge pile of weeds from the rain garden, too.

BUILDING ACCESS
As many of you know, we’ve kept a key to the church “hidden” outside the building for many years. We want to be more secure about our building, at this time. We are placing a key in a combination lock box near the same place as the “hidden key”. If you need access to the code, please contact any of the pastors, the moderators, or Jon Blanchard.
Moderators and Ministry chairs should already have a key to use the building as needed for meetings, but if you are a leader of a group who uses the building often, please get in touch with Julie W in the office to arrange for a key. Thanks for keeping our building safe!
