SEPTEMBER COMPASSION OFFERING

Yahara House

Yahara House (YH), located in Madison Wisconsin, is an evidence-based community mental health program that focuses on recovery through social connection, meaningful activity, and reintroduction to community employment. YH’s mission is to transform the lives of people living with mental illness by replacing despair, stigma, and isolation with hope, dignity and community. YH is made up of community members who are working together to achieve some common goals, including:

- completing educational and employment goals

- developing self-esteem, confidence, and coping strategies

- finding and securing resources – such as affordable housing, primary care services; and

- living a life of respect and independence within the members’ larger community

Open and accessible to program members 40 hours a week, plus holidays and monthly evening and weekend social activities, YH offers a place for adults with mental illness to belong in a stigma-free environment. Update: Children & Youth Programs

Nursery Care opens at 8:30am. Abby and Najma are ready to play with your little one!

Children and Youth Faith Formation starts at 9 am.

Children in PreK – 2 grade are invited to sing with Julie in the William Johnson room at 9:00-9:15. After the music, their classroom “guides,” Jill Westberg and Julie Horton, will lead the children in the story, “The Light” (inspired by John 8:12). Together, they will light the Christ Candle light and see how it shines within each of us.

The 3-6 grade classroom will focus on the Parable of The Forgiving Father. After discussing the story, the children will be invited to explore multi-sensory stations to deepen their understanding of the text. Josie Gasser and Maddie Miller will guide the children in their learning. Your child will wait for you in the classroom before moving to the sanctuary for worship at 10 am.

Youth (7th-High School) will meet in the Frank Room at 9:00 a.m. for Coexist with Susan Watson and Al Blanchard.

Music Opportunities for Children and Youth

TRU Function (youth band) practice begins this Sunday from 10:00-noon in the Haynes Music Room.

Music Connections resumes this Sunday. Following the children’s moment in worship, children in grades 2-6 are invited to join Julie downstairs in the Friedrich Bonhoeffer room for Music Connections for a Drum Circle! Bethany Schultz will be our Music Connections volunteer.
