For Children & Youth – April 28th

Children

8:30 am Supported Childcare: Marcia will be available to assist families with young children in The Crossroads.

All children (PreK-5) will gather at 9 am in the William Johnson Room for music. After the singing, Music Connections 2-6 graders will shift to the Anne Frank Room to rehearse our special meditative music for the 10 am worship service. Younger children and those not interested in participating in the music (or observing the music), are invited to stay with Jill and Josie to hear a story about when the Disciples saw Jesus by the Sea of Galilee after his resurrection.

After sharing our special music during worship, we’ll shift downstairs for our FINAL Music Connections gathering of the programming year! By special request, we will have a Dance and Donut party to celebrate a wonderful year of music together. George G. will be our Safe Sanctuary volunteer.

Looking Ahead:

May 19: Confirmation Sunday

June 2: End of Programming Year Celebration

This Sunday, this Music Connections kiddos are going to share special music during worship. In coordination, all PreK-5th grade students will be invited to join me for singing until 9:15. At that time, Music Connections kids will shift to the Frank Room to rehearse. So, you might have a few stragglers stay for the story if they are not interested in participating/observing with us.

Please read ahead of time and come prepared to discuss “Anti-Zionism Is Not the Same as Antisemitism. Here’s the History”

by Benjamin Moser

from Chistian Ethics Today.

With all the turmoil over the Israeli-Hamas (Palestinian) war, last December’s congressional resolution equating anti-Zionism with antisemitism and the subsequent student protests, we wonder how we should respond to the “anti-semetic” protesters on and off our nation’s campuses. This article gives a brief history of the difference between anti-Zionist and antisemetic behavior. Recently President Biden spoke out about the increase in antisemitism in the US while, at the same time, our nation is withholding military supplies from the Israeli government. Are these actions compatible or not? What should our response to this situation be? Can we oppose the Israeli actions while supporting the Jewish community? Join us for discussion!

MAY COMPASSION OFFERING

Showing Compassion for Children in Gaza

Our May Compassion Offering – Middle East Children’s Alliance (MECA) — was identified and recommended by the ORUCC Palestine Justice Mission Team. After researching and considering many options, the Team unanimously approved sponsoring MECA as the Compassion Offering, in light of the current, urgent situation in Gaza. MECA has staff on site in Gaza to respond immediately and directly upon receiving our support.

MECA was founded in 1988 in Berkeley, California as a private, not-for-profit organization whose mission is to deliver vital supplies and humanitarian services to children in Gaza. As MECA’s work has progressed over the years, its activities have included providing direct aid to refugee children in Lebanon and Iraq; water projects in Gaza that bring clean water for children and their families; assistance to community organizations that help meet Palestinian children’s needs; scholarships for Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank; and educational/cultural programs in the USA to increase understanding about the lives of children in the Middle East and the impact of US foreign policy on people in the region.

Compassion Offering funds raised in May will be directed entirely to MECA’s emergency appeal for the humanitarian needs of Gazan children and their families. Our donations will quickly provide food, water, healthcare and shelter for children in Gaza who are hungry, injured, orphaned and/or homeless.
