This session will focus on the power of Mary, Mother of Jesus,

to inspire people of many faiths.

As a Protestant congregation, we tend to overlook the role that Mary plays in the faith of many people, including many Roman Catholics, but others as well. In this Sunday’s readings & discussion, we explore the power Mary holds over many by looking at the reverence many Mexicans and people throughout parts of Latin America have for the figure of Our Lady of Guadalupe. We’ll also explore how Mary’s Song of Praise (the Magnificat) has been seen as both inspirational and subversive through three short readings, including a Daily Meditation from Richard Rohr, the first two chapters of Luke’s Gospel, and a short chapter from Kathleen Norris’ book Amazing Grace.

Compassion Offering

for December

is The Christmas Fund

The Christmas Fund has been caring for active and retired clergy and lay employees of the United Church of Christ for over 100 years, providing emergency grants, supplementation of small annuities and health premiums, and Christmas “Thank You” gift checks each December to our lower-income retirees.

United Church of Christ congregations and members have blessed the Christmas Fund with their generosity for many years. This year, your care and compassion will be especially appreciated by those servants of the church who are facing a time of need.

Thank you for your generosity and for helping those who have helped us in our times of need.
