SEPTEMBER COMPASSION OFFERING

Yahara House

Yahara House (YH), located in Madison Wisconsin, is an evidence-based community mental health program that focuses on recovery through social connection, meaningful activity, and reintroduction to community employment. YH’s mission is to transform the lives of people living with mental illness by replacing despair, stigma, and isolation with hope, dignity and community. YH is made up of community members who are working together to achieve some common goals, including:

- completing educational and employment goals

- developing self-esteem, confidence, and coping strategies

- finding and securing resources – such as affordable housing, primary care services; and

- living a life of respect and independence within the members’ larger community

Open and accessible to program members 40 hours a week, plus holidays and monthly evening and weekend social activities, YH offers a place for adults with mental illness to belong in a stigma-free environment. Faith Formation for

Children & Youth

This Sunday we are excited to kick-off the 2024-25 faith formation (formerly known as “Sunday School”) programming year!

Children Pre-K-6th Grade “Peace Circle”:

Spring 2024, the children brainstormed a name to better represent our 9 am faith formation hour. The name they created is “Peace Circle.” Most of our curriculum has a “Peace” element. Peace for the world, for each other, and for ourselves. “Circle” reflects that we are gathering together, usually in the shape of a circle.

All Children Pre-K-6th Grade will begin in the William Johnson Room at 9 am for Music with Julie.

Children under the age of five will transition to the nursery after the music. Be sure to pop in and introduce yourself to our new Nursery Care Workers, Abby and Najma!

K-2 Children will stay in the Ruby Bridges Room to hear a story about the Good Shepherd.

Children in grades 3-6 will transition to the Ruby Bridges Room where they too will hear the parable of The Good Shepherd as well as explore multisensory stations throughout the room.

Your child will wait for you in the classroom before moving to the sanctuary for worship at 10 am.

Youth Faith Formation (7th-High School):

Youth meet at 9:00 a.m. in the Anne Frank Room. We will begin our journey through Coexist: Interfaith Exploration. This fall we will learn about four major religious traditions (Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Islam) and how they relate to Christianity. This Sunday we also celebrate the Youth Service Trip in worship, so youth will help set up for this event during the 9:00 hour!
