My Giving Story

“I trust in the future of Orchard Ridge UCC and believe in God’s abundance among us because I’ve seen it work in the past 10 years that I’ve been Treasurer.

Each year we start the stewardship process with a general goal, and then trust the members of ORUCC to provide us with the funds to meet that goal – this year an increase of 5%. We just send pledge cards out and hope.  It’s a bit like having faith.

So what do we do with your money, and why do we need more this year?” -John Day, our treasurer

“Being Moderator this year has allowed me to see up close all of the ways that we the people of Orchard Ridge are steeped in so much love. We have vibrant and vital programming for all ages. We are supporting our neighbors with things like our compassion offerings and with our Heart Room ministry. We are an active and lively group of people who worship together and share our lives with each other. Our two pastors inspire and challenge us to live into God’s promise of abundant love for all of us. Love flows through Orchard Ridge United Church of Christ in so many ways. I am beyond grateful for this place, its people, its building, and its programs. That is why I am pledging to this year’s Stewardship campaign with joy.”

“Here’s a story of grace and abundance. Years ago I was discouraged, lonely and stressed. I needed a get-away and went to the all-church retreat, unsure it was the right place for me. Then God appeared, in the guise of a young boy, maybe 5 years old, He was assigned to help serve communion in our worship circle. Oddly, at first he and the other children had skipped me as they passed the bread. This little boy, with guidance from a loving adult, noticed, and scampered back to my place. He ripped off a huge handful of delicious home-made bread for me. Then he noticed there was only one other big chunk left in the basket and he gave me that too. This brought tears to my eyes – and had me chewing bread for a long time! In the spirit of that shared abundance and grace, I have sent in my pledge card for the ORUCC stewardship campaign. I hope you do too.”

“I trust in the future of Orchard Ridge UCC and believe in God’s abundance because when I walk through the doors of our church, I can feel the members and staff of ORUCC communicating not just with words, but also with love and support for one another …this love language we all share transforms this place from being just a church into a regenerative space. A safe space that allows us to step away from the noise or the weight of our days. For me, it always manages to collect and redirect my spirit towards a more elevated place.”
