We are grateful for the ministry of Jeanne Moberly who is a member of Adult Faith Formation, as she puts together a set of fresh readings every week for our devotional practice at Orchard Ridge UCC. You will see these posted daily if you are part of the “Members & Friends” Facebook group. If you know someone who needs encouragement and would like the devotional mailed to them, please contact Julie Wombacher in the church office.

January Compassion Offering

Ethical Trade Co

Ethical Trade Co was founded in 2015 after our founders witnessed firsthand exploitation and human trafficking affecting people in southeast Asia. We met companies there that offered ethical employment opportunities to the people in their communities to prevent further exploitation. Feeling inspired, we set out to provide a marketplace for the products they were making so that they could offer ethical employment to even more people. Today our work financially empowers formerly exploited people in more than 25 countries.

As we sell items or receive donations into our general fund we are able to purchase more products which uphold the vision of empowering artisans by paying them a livable wage for their labor so that they are able to break free from exploitation and trafficking.

You can make a donation by check, on the memo line, please write “compassion” and mail to ORUCC, 1501 Gilbert Road, Madison, WI 53711, or donate online from our website. The link is https://orucc.org/contribute/support/

Chili Cook-Off

Sunday, January 29th, after worship in Friendship Hall

Our annual Chili-Cookoff is a favorite events for families and friends of ORUCC! Not only do we taste delicious chili and cornbread recipes, but we are able to visit and connect with one another in an unhurried, casual and festive atmosphere! Please join us even if you’re unable to bring food. No charge! But if you’re able to bring food, please bring a meat chili, vegetarian chili (in a crock pot labeled with your name), or homemade cornbread. Please bring a card with the name of the chili and ingredients, and any possible allergens. We’ll award ribbons for the favorite meat chili, vegetarian chili and cornbread, not in a spirit of competition, but in a spirit of good fun!

Pie Reception to Celebrate Vicki Nonn’s 50 Years of Music Ministry Among Us!

As of October 2022, Vicki Nonn has served as ORUCC’s pianist/organist for 50 years! We will celebrate her incredible talents and ministry with a joyous worship service full of music at 10 AM on January 22, 2023.

There will be a Pie Reception after worship in Friendship Hall. Vicki loves pies and always makes her own crust! Please consider providing a homemade savory pie (e.g. meat pie or quiche) or a homemade dessert pie (e.g. fruit pie, custard pie, etc.). Vanilla ice cream and whipped cream will be provided, along with hot and cold beverages. Bring your pie to the church kitchen before worship along with a card describing the pie, including any allergens. Be sure to write your name on the pie plate. Kitchen volunteers will warm up the savory pies. We will need at least one homemade gluten-free savory pie and one homemade gluten-free dessert pie.

If you’d rather contribute $25 to have our volunteers purchase a fresh-baked restaurant pie, please submit a check to ORUCC and write “A Pie for Vicki” in the memo line. Any money received over the cost of pies will be allocated to the music ministries of ORUCC.

Thank you!

Showing of Fiber Art

YOU ARE INVITED by Chris Thomas to see the current showing of fiber art in the Playhouse Gallery (lower level) of the Overture Center, on display through February 26. The show’s theme is ROOTS, OUR FOUNDATION. Members of the Madison Contemporary Fiber Artists will hold an Open House and Gallery Talk on Friday, Jan 20 at 5:30 pm.

YOU CAN BE A FIBER ARTIST on Saturday January 14 from 10am-1pm when you take part in the Community Workshop, open to all ages (children accompanied by an adult.) Try out some creative techniques with the artists. Your work will then be hung in the gallery across from the show and remain there through February 26.

Employment Opportunity

Madison Mennonite Church seeks an Administrative Assistant. MMC’s Administrative Assistant collaborates with the Pastor and lay leaders to equip the MMC community in its mission and vision.
